♡ hello there! ♡
♡ disclaimer ♡
I made this carrd in an attempt to educate people about verbality, since there isn't much information online about this topic! However, I am not an expert on this topic by any means. I did lots of research to make my info as accurate as possible, but I may get a few things wrong.Feel free to (calmly) let me know about any accidental misinformation on this carrd by messaging my Tumblr, @pastelalleycat.
♡ what is verbality? ♡
Verbality involves how much, or how little, a person is capable of communicating through speech. Many people are fully verbal, meaning that they do not have any trouble speaking. However, some people don't use verbal communication, use it to a lesser extent, or just use it differently! This can be due to neurodivergence, such as ASD and ADHD, stress, alters in a DID or OSDD system, and/or age regression. It should be understood that verbality is a spectrum. It can fluctuate, and is not limited to just "verbal" and "non-verbal". There are billions of ways to communicate, just as there are billions of people in the world!
♡ types of verbality ♡
Non-verbal: Not speaking, or only speaking a few words with significant effort.Semi-verbal: Having difficulty physically speaking, but still able to talk in some form.Alt-verbal: Using a personal style of speech, often different from fully verbal individuals, to communicate.Mirror-verbal: Echoing the speech patterns of the people around them to communicate.Hyper-verbal: Formulating and speaking words at a very fast pace.
♡ People who are non-verbal may use pictures / emojis, text, or sign language to communicate! ♡♡ People who are semi-verbal may communicate using pictures or text, and / or use a limited vocabulary! ♡♡ People who are alt-verbal may communicate using "gramatically-incorrect" sentences, but should still be taken seriously! ♡♡ People who are mirror-verbal may also have echolalia, though this isn't always the case and should never be assumed! ♡♡ People who are hyper-verbal are NOT the same as "talkative" people! There is a difference! ♡
